Our Story

Sweeney Communications was founded by managing director Jo Ann Sweeney in 1993.

During her early career Jo Ann worked in internal communications and marketing for the New Zealand Post Office and British Telecom, as well as for the public relations agency Leslie Bishop Group and direct marketer Moore Response Graphics.

In 1992 Jo Ann left the corporate world to specialise in stakeholder engagement and transformation in the technology, telecoms and energy sectors.

She continued to work as a consultant to BT, both as editor of the headquarters edition of BT Today, the monthly staff magazine, and as communication expert for a range of change programmes spanning skills development, product launches, office relocations, redeployment and business process re-engineering.

Her BT clients recommended her to their contacts and this led to political lobbying and technology rollouts for other organisations including BP, Eisai, Telefonica O2, Inmarsat, Siemens, Convergys, Clariant, Transport for London and London Councils.

As the business grew Jo Ann added associates who are also experts in engagement and communications. They also have extensive experience in change management, stakeholder engagement, resistance management, training and corporate communications for multinational organisations.

Together we are known for clearly explaining technical and complex information so stakeholders pay attention, understand both the detail and relevance for themselves, trust the messaging and are willing to change the ways they work.

Our results-focused approach ensures engagement and change activities achieve their objectives, meet stakeholder expectations, make best use of resources and deliver value to reputation and the bottom line.

Clients are typically digital transformation leaders working in global, matrixed organisations who want an external perspective and rigorous, structured approach to engaging stakeholders.

Typically they come to us frustrated that people are ignoring or resisting change. They may be under pressure from executives who are not seeing the return on investment they want.If this sounds like you, do reach out. We look forward to beginning conversation with you.
